Manchester United starlet shines in testimonial

Manchester United supporters may have left Old Trafford on Friday night feeling disappointed with the 3-1 defeat to Sevilla - particularly as it was Rio Ferdinand's testimonial - but no doubt they will have been excited by the performance of Adnan Januzaj.

The 18-year-old Belgian, who impressed on United's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia earlier this summer, was easily the Red Devils' standout performer on the night - and will have given manager David Moyes something to think about ahead of the new season.

Januzaj looked comfortable on either flank and behind the main striker, showcasing his impressive versatility against the La Liga outfit.

He was confident, eager to make an impression, and even set up Manchester United's only goal of the evening: a low cross which was converted by Antonio Valencia.

While Moyes knows that signing a new central midfielder is imperative, he will be increasingly convinced that, in the form of Januzaj, he has a youngster able to play anywhere in the 'three' of a 4-2-3-1 system.

The next test for the United starlet, who arrived at Old Trafford from Anderlecht in March 2011, could be Sunday's Community Shield clash against Wigan Athletic.
