Why Arsenal shouldn't sign Luis Suarez

In recent weeks, transfer speculation has linked Arsenal with Luis Suarez - Liverpool's star striker and second top scorer in the Premier League last season.

Arsene Wenger has already had two bids in the region of £40 million rejected, and there are still rumours that Wenger may up the price to more than £50 million to lure Suarez away from Anfield.

Here is my take on why Arsenal should not take Suarez.

Yes, Suarez is a brilliant goalscorer and yes, he has dazzling dribbling skills. He is a good free-kick taker too but the Uruguayan comes with just too much additional baggage for a deal to be worth it.

Firstly, Suarez has severe disciplinary problems. This is already evident by the ten match ban that he received for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season, and this ban will continue into the new campaign.

If Arsenal do buy Suarez, they will have to play seven matches in the Premier League without him, and there is always the possibility that Suarez may do something similar again, and this would affect the Arsenal squad morale and their season as a whole.

Suarez's potential to do something crazy is just too unpredictable for Arsenal to risk their money on.

Secondly, Suarez has his ways of forcing a move. He forced a move away from Ajax two seasons ago and is now ready to take legal action against Liverpool so that he can transfer to a Champions League club.

For all you know, in one or two seasons time, Suarez may try to force a move away from Arsenal if the team do not perform. This is not the kind of player Arsenal should be buying.

Thirdly, £50 million is way too high a price to pay, even for a player of Suarez's standard. £50 million could even buy two players of very good quality.

For example, Tottenham purchased Roberto Soldado - the fifth top scorer in La Liga last season - from Valencia for a mere £17 million, which is less than half of what Arsenal are prepared to offer Liverpool for Suarez.

There are many players out there whom Arsenal could buy with less than £50 million, my view is that Arsenal should not waste such as huge sum on Suarez.

It is definitely a huge risk for the usually prudent Wenger to gamble such a significant amount of money on Suarez - I hope that Wenger does not take this risk.

What is your take on the Suarez transfer saga? Should Arsenal do all they can to bring him to the Emirates, or should they look for a cheaper alternative? Whatever your opinion, have your say in the comments box provided.
