Etienne Capoue has snubbed newly promoted Cardiff City in favour of a move to big-spenders Tottenham, according to reports

The Toulouse midfielder and French international is set to complete a medical at White Hart Lane after the two clubs have agreed a fee, believed to be £8.6million.

Cardiff had put in a bid of around £9.5million, which was accepted by the Ligue 1 club, and personal terms had been agreed, but manager Malky Mackay has revealed the 25-year-old prefers a move to the capital.

"We had a bid accepted but it looks as if he has decided, as far as I am aware, to go to Tottenham. It looks like it will go that way," said Mackay.

If the move is completed in the next few days, Capoue will become Spurs manager Andre Vilas-Boas' fourth summer signing.

And Villas-Boas has been busy in the transfer window, bringing in Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado, and it looks like he will take that total to four.

The Portuguese has broken Tottenham's transfer record twice this summer after recruiting Paulinho for £17million and then Soldado for £26million, taking Spurs summer spending to over £50million.

He has also seen Clint Dempsey and Steven Caulker leave the Lane for Seattle Saunders and Cardiff respectively.
