Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel has signed for Leicester City on a season-long loan deal.

Miquel has Champions League experience with Arsenal and has made 14 appearances for the Gunners since 2011.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was pleased to land the defender, telling BBC Radio Leicester: “He will give us a different type of option at the back.”

The 6'4" centre back featured three times for Arsenal last season and scored against Coventry in a 6-1 romp in the Capital One Cup.

Beginning his career at Barcelona, Miquel made the move to Arsenal two years ago in a similar manner to ex-Gunner Cesc Fabregas.

"I came here knowing it would be a challenge for me," Miquel said.

"I need to play, and I think here will give me a chance to be part of the squad, to be fighting for a place in the starting XI. It is good to have competition.

"I know I will get a chance, I just have to take it when I have it."

Miquel is the second player to join the Foxes this season, after Zoumana Bakayogo moved from Tranmere Rovers last month.
