Arsene Wenger: We will respect Liverpool
Liverpool owner John W Henry is adamant that the club will not be selling Suarez
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will not give up in his pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez - despite the club's owner refusing to sell the Uruguayan for any price this summer.
John W Henry gave an interview after Suarez revealed that promises were broken between the player and the club, which aggravated Brendan Rodgers - who reacted angrily in the press and forced the striker to train alone so that he didn't pass on the negativity to the rest of the team.
The war-of-words in the press forced the owner to speak publicly about the Suarez situation for the first time and Henry was very clear that the 26-year-old is not for sale at any price for any team, especially not Arsenal.
However, the Gunners manager is not giving up easily and has revealed that he still wants Suarez at the Emirates Stadium and he is adamant that the officials behind the scenes are working hard to ensure the transfer goes ahead.
When asked about Henry's statement, Wenger revealed that it hasn't put him off trying to sign the Uruguayan.
"No because we are in the middle of the transfer period and we are looking at possibilities to strengthen our squad.
"I didn’t read his statements but that’s how it will work or not work. We’ll be faithful to the way we want to behave.
"I’ve nothing to add to what I said already about the transfer of Suarez. If it will be done, it will be done in a respectful way with Liverpool.
"To make a transfer happen you need the agreement of three parties – the buyer, the seller and the player. We know we want to do.
"Liverpool at the moment do not agree. Whether they change their mind or not we don’t know. We’ll respect that.
"Suarez is one of the targets. If he’s not for sale, he’s not for sale we have to accept that."
