Manchester United could be without Rafael for up to five weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in the Community Shield. The Brazilian fullback limped off after just 16 minutes at Wembley, and could miss Premier League matches against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Frank Lampard insists he will be fit for his side's Premier League opener against Hull City on Sunday. The 35-year-old has missed most of the preseason campaign with an Achilles injury, but has featured in the club's last two friendlies.

Arsene Wenger has given England manager Roy Hodgson his blessing to play Jack Wilshere against Scotland on Wednesday evening. The Arsenal star has played a limited role as the Gunners prepare for the new campaign, but looks set to start for his country against the Scots at Wembley.

Danny Rose is ready to stake his claim for a regular first-team spot in the Tottenham team after an impressive preseason. The 23-year-old left-back enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season, but wants to stay at White Hart Lane this term and fight for a starting place.

Manuel Pellegrini accepts his team's defence needs to improve following Manchester City's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. The new City boss thinks his team will be at their best when the season starts, but admits he's concerned by the way his team have been conceding goals in preseason.

Barcelona have confirmed Cesc Fabregas has suffered a sprained ankle ligament. The Barca midfielder picked up the injury against a Malaysia XI at the weekend, and now looks set to miss Spain's friendly against Ecuador.
