Flamengo v Fluminense is one of the biggest rivalries in Brazilian club football and the latest derby this weekend produced quality and bite in equal measure.
Flamengo came from behind to eventually win 3-2 at the Maracana – the stadium shared by the two teams – and the highlight of the game was the goal that saw Fla go into the lead for the first time.
Right-back Leo Moura picked up the ball midway in the Fluminense half with a little over 30 minutes gone in the game and got to the byline after pulling off a cheeky nutmeg on his opponent.
Centre-forward Hernane was in confident mood on Sunday and he showed it with a delightful backheel flicked finish to Leo Moura’s low cross.
That made the score 2-1 to Flamengo after Fluminense striker Rafael Sobis’ opener had been cancelled out by Elias.
Hernane scored again with ten minutes remaining, meaning Sobis’ injury time second was no more than a consolation for his team.
