Tottenham Hotspur have tabled an audacious £15 million bid for Ajax duo Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, according to The Mirror.
Eriksen is one of the brightest and most-gifted young players in the European game, and has been repeatedly linked with a transfer to some of the continent’s biggest clubs this summer.
Both Eriksen and Alderweireld are entering the final 12 months of their contracts with Dutch giants Ajax and the club is hoping to negotiate a deal with one of the interested clubs this summer in order to cash in on the players.
Both the youngsters are themselves also looking for an exit from the club but are prepared to wait for the right offer.
"I am prepared to wait. I will only go where my heart wants to go," Denmark international Eriksen said.
"I am patiently waiting what will happen in the next few weeks. But I have said before I only want to go to a club where I feel I can play at my best and which suits my style.
"I am ready for something new, I am ready for bigger options. But it has to be right."
Many European clubs have been linked with the duo over the summer but Liverpool is the club who have been most mentioned as the actual possible destination for the players.
The Merseyside club have maintained a long-term interest in the pair and were believed to be the favoured destination for the talented duo.
However, Tottenham's reported bid should turn their heads as the north London side are a club which is on the rise under their flamboyant manager Andre Villas-Boas and are expected to mount a serious challenge for a top-four spot this season.
Both players have turned down offers from other clubs in anticipation of a move to a club with history but one which also guarantees them the chance to play week in week out at a competitive league next season.
Eriksen has turned down clubs like Zenit Saint Petersburg, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma and AS Monaco whereas Alderweireld had recently rejected a move to Norwich City and is currently stalling on a move to Spartak Moscow despite Ajax accepting the Russian club's bid for the player.
