Ecuadorian defender booked for biting opponent in the face

Deportivo Quevedo star Edwin Hurtado hit the headlines in Ecuador over the weekend following a controversial incident that saw him attempt to bite an opponent in Sunday's clash against SC Barcelona.

The 30-year-old defender was lucky to receive only a yellow card for his vicious act, which saw him clearly try to sink his teeth into the nose of Andrés Franzoia.

Awaiting the delivery of an SC Barcelona corner, Franzoia was guilty of some over-zealous jostling in the penalty box, which resulted in a Deportivo Quevedo player being laid out on the floor.

However, the angry reaction his physical exertion prompted from Hurtado was completely out of order, as he squared up to his opponent in infuriating fashion.

The fracas that followed between the two players came to a head when Hurtado attempted to clamp his gnashers around the centre of Franzoia's face.

And, although the contact Hurtado made was minimal, Franzoia wasted little time in going down and rolling around the floor, presumably in an attempt to get the aggressive perpetrator sent off.
