After Sunday's comfortable Community Shield victory over Wigan Athletic, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie claims that United are favourites for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
A brace from the Dutch striker ensured that new manager David Moyes tasted his first success as manager of Manchester United.
The question is: are United ready for big things now that Sir Alex Ferguson has gone?
Perhaps they will be if Wayne Rooney does end up staying at Old Trafford, and according to Moyes, the striker is not for sale.
Transfer window time will tell if Moyes is correct. As for any recruitments, United have been tight-lipped in their search for new acquisitions.
The much anticipated campaign gets under way this weekend, and Moyes takes his men to the Liberty Stadium in Swansea, where last season Ferguson tasted his one of very few defeats at the hands of the Swans.
The next five games then include Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Everton. For a change it will be that United start off a campaign on the rough side of the woods, a signal that Sir Alex had all the fortune.
If these matches do not go United's way, they could well see them fall down the table in the early stages of the campaign. Their powers of recovery will be tested under new management and Moyes will be aware that he needs to instil more confidence and belief to his players than he has at anytime in his moderate career.
A positive to his CV is that he has managed to end higher than city rivals Liverpool for consecutive seasons; a stat that will supply endless headaches and squabbles in many Scouser households.
United fans are sceptical over Moyes. If Moyes does produce the goods and gets his team challenging for next season's title, many football-loving and watching fans all over the world will be surprised at the least.
In a way many hope that their time does come, like so many before them.
Liverpool and Nottingham Forest are prime examples of teams who had it all but have nothing now. Are United the next to have nothing?
