Manuel Pellegrini wants to bring Pepe to Manchester City this summer, according to Goal.com.
With Matija Nastasic ruled out for the start of the Premier League campaign, after he injured his ankle during pre-season, Pellegrini sees the Real Madrid star as the perfect option to sure up his side's defence.
City had made an inquiry about the availability of Pepe previously in the transfer window, but they had been put off by Real Madrid's £30 million asking price.
But, now Pellegrini is ready to step up his interest in the Portuguese star and with Madrid needing the extra funds to secure a move for Tottenham's Gareth Bale, the Chilean boss is hopeful he can tie up a deal for the 30-year-old.
The Citizens begin their Premier League campaign in under a week against Newcastle United at the Etihad and City will hope to complete a move for Real's star in the near future.
