Arsenal's move for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo could be impeded by Liverpool's potential swoop for his team-mate Diego Contento.
The Gunners are said to be closing on making Gustavo their first major signing of the summer with a £17 million bid on the table.
However CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed Bayern are only willing to let one of the two players leave, and should Liverpool seal a deal for Contento it could complicate the Gunners swoop for Gustavo.
"We will only let one player leave," he is quoted by Bild as saying.
Arsenal are yet to make a major signing this summer having missed out on Gonzalo Higuain. The north London club have also had two bids for Luis Suarez turned down by Liverpool.
Reports suggest they could be close to changing that with a bid in excess of £17 million on the table for Gustavo, who has admitted he would be keen on a move to the Emirates.
The Brazilian is looking to leave Bayern this summer in order to ensure first team football ahead of the World Cup next year.
Liverpool meanwhile look to be chasing Contento in order to provide Luis Enrique with some competition - however they are likely to face competition of their own from Werder Bremen.
Bayern advisor Ludwig Kogl said about Contento: "There was contact with Werder but what matters is what Bayern want."
