The weight of expectation placed upon a Manchester United No.7 has become too much for Antonio Valencia, who has taken the decision to relinquish the prestigious shirt just one year after he was awarded it by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Valencia has requested to return to the No.25 having been unable to, in his opinion, continue the legacy of the shirt previously worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The No.7 is now vacant ahead of the new season and, so far, it is unclear as to who will be granted the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of some of Old Trafford's most distinguished former players.
