Tottenham eye move for Barcelona starlet Marc Bartra

Tottenham have made an enquiry over the availability of Barcelona defender Marc Bartra.

Spurs are in the market for a new centre-back after letting Steven Caulker join Cardiff City earlier this month, having also released William Gallas.

Steaua Bucharest'They appeared to have found his replacement straight away, only to see a deal for s Vlad Chiriches break down. Spurs also reportedly explored the option of a move for Porto's Rolando, who has now joined Inter Milan on loan.

According to Goal.com, Spurs have approached Barcelona over the 22-year-old, while simultaneously batting away an enquiry from the Catalan club over Jan Vertonghen.

Any move for Batra could be could be complicated by the fact Barcelona are looking for their own centre-back this summer.

Having failed with a move for PSG's Thiago Silva earlier this summer, they are now reportedly targeting Chelsea'd David Luiz and Liverpool's Daniel Agger.

According to Goal, Barcelona are open to letting Batra join Spurs, but only on loan in order to assess his development before deciding whether to let him leave permanently.
