Tottenham Hotspur have started negotiations with Roma over a fee for Erik Lamela according to the Evening Standard.
Gareth Bale's future at Tottenham is becoming more uncertain everyday, and Spurs are actively looking for replacements. Lamela has been identified.
Bale has reiterated his desire to leave and get his dream move to Real Madrid. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is asking for £100miilion for the winger.
Lamela is now seen by Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas as the ideal replacement for the Welsh wizard.
Lamela, who scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 35 appearances for Roma last season, has yet to sign the new deal he has reportedly been offered by the Italian club.
Lamela has been operating in a 4-3-3 formation for Roma last season, which is Spurs head coach AVB's preferred formation.
The 21-year-old has bags of potential and is a player of a similar ilk to Bale. Lamela has searing pace, flair and is blessed with immense dribbling ability.
The Argentine primarily operates as an inside right forward, cutting in with his left foot, at Roma but can operate as a left winger or in the hole behind the striker.
Roma value Lamela at £30million but Spurs will hope they can bring the price down as the Italian club are in need of the money.
Lamela has all the ability to be an able replacement for Bale. He is young, versatile and has already two caps for Argentina. Lamela could possibly be even better than Bale in the future and would be a shrewd investment for Tottenham.
