The Premier League. The best league in the world? The most attractive? The most watched league? Has the best players?

Some questions that may or may not have yet been answered but since the formation of the Premier League in 1992 it has produced endless entertainment, crucial talking points and some jaw-dropping action.

Of course it has seen some glorious goals and spectacular saves, but the competition has also thrown up some monstrous misses.

GMS senior contributor Ben Cheveralls takes a look at some of the worst misses seen in the Premier League - take a look, you won't believe your eyes!

5) Scott Sinclair - Swansea v Manchester United, November 2011

The winger managed to nutmeg himself instead tapping the ball into the empty net. Sinclair could have equalised for Swansea, who eventually lost the match 1-0. He will be kicking himself for this missing this!

4) Carlton Cole - West Ham v Norwich City, January 2013

No wonder Cole has now been released by the club after this missing opportunity. A simple touch would have taken this into the back of the net. But at lease the former England international could laugh about it after the game saying 'his mum could of scored that chance.'

3) Nwankwo Kanu - West Brom Albion v Middlesbrough, November 2004

This Kanu chance is consistently considered as one of the worst howlers in the Premier League, with the striker missing an open goal from two-yards out. The manager was captured on television saying "How did he miss that?" - I don't think even he knows how.

2) Ronny Rosenthal - Aston Villa v Liverpool, September 1992

With the Premier League just a month old, Rosenthal comes up with a contender of the worst ever miss. He got past the Villa keeper, only to...well see for yourself.

1) Fernando Torres - Chelsea v Manchester United, September 2011

Torres. The British transfer record of £50million from Liverpool to Chelsea. A prolific striker for the Reds only meant one thing, goals for Chelsea. Well this wasn't exactly the case at Old Trafford, as this miss gets my vote as the WORST in the history of the Premier League.

And there you have it; my five worst misses of all time in the Premier League. With the new season just days away, we will have to see if there is anyone capable of knocking Torres off top spot.
