Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is a £5million target for Serie A outfit Napoli, reports The Metro.
With former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez now at the helm of Napoli, his ambitous summer dealings have transformed the side who finished second last season.
The likes of Jose Callejon, Raul Albiol, Dries Mertens, Gonzalo Higuain and Pepe Reina have all joined this summer and Benitez is keen to add Mikel to his current squad.
Benitez's transfer dealings have centred around attacking talent, and the Spaniard is desperate to add some defensive talent to his squad before the start of the new Serie A season.
Italian reports have suggested that Chelsea are holding out for a sum of around £5m for the Nigerian international, with talks set to begin over the weekend.
Mikel has struggled for first-team football at Chelsea in recent seasons, with Roberto Di Matteo and Benitez often preferring either Frank Lampard or Ramieres in the holding midfield role.
And with new manager Jose Mourinho unable to promise Mikel first-team football, the Nigerian is keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge.
With Jose Mourinho being repeatedly linked with AS Roma midfielder Daniel De Rossi, Mikel looks to only be going further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway at Stamford Bridge against Hull City on Saturday, as Jose Mourinho takes charge of his first Premier League game since returning to the club.
