Luis Suarez yet to contact Liverpool

Arsenal target Luis Suarez has not yet informed Liverpool of his apparent desire to stay with the club amid suggestions the Uruguayan has abandoned his want to leave the club this summer.

Suarez's future has been the subject of intense speculation since the opening of the transfer window, with the 26-year-old attempting to force a move away from Anfield before next month's deadline.

Liverpool, however, have no desire to sell the player and have rejected two bids from Arsenal for the striker, who had been prepared to challenge the club's stance with the Premier League.

Arsenal's most recent offer of £40,000,001 was made in confidence that it would allow them to speak to the player, but Liverpool interpreted the contractual stipulation differently to the interest party.

Liverpool have since informed Suarez that he will not be joining Arsenal and must accept that his future remains on Merseyside and, it would seem, the former Ajax captain has finally backed down.

"For now, due to all of the people's affection, I will be staying," Suarez is reported to have said on Monday.

However, according to BBC Sport, Liverpool are still awaiting official contact from Suarez to confirm he intends to stay with the club and not hand in an official request to force a move to Arsenal.

Suarez scored 30 goals in 44 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions last term, but is unavailable for the first six games of the new campaign as he serves an FA suspension.
