The close season has yet again been utilised by Premier League clubs to import the best talent on offer from around the world.

Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs are all under new management, and are looking to rebuild sides to stake a serious challenge for the title. And we have already seen the arrival of world-class players such as Roberto Soldado, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic this summer.

These strikers in particular will be looking to emulate some of the most successful goalscorers in the league's history, and there have been some high quality net busters in the past two decades.

There are different types of forwards: Those who pose physical threats, but also diminutive figures who can sniff out a chance and pounce in the penalty area.

So, with that in mind, here is a countdown of the top five forwards in Premier League history.
