Manchester City may be about to bid for Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis, according to the Daily Mail.
32-year-old Demichelis, who has 37 caps for Argentina, worked with new City boss Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga last season and could be seen as the ideal candidate to boost his former manager's current defensive options after the club reportedly cooled their interest in Real Madrid's Pepe.
Any potential move for the player could prove problematic, however. Following his departure from Malaga, Demichelis only joined La Liga rivals Atletico this summer and it remains to be seen whether his current employers would be willing to cancel his contract without receiving the appropriate compensation.
City, who have already made significant strides in the transfer market this summer with the impressive acquisitions of Fernandinho, Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic and Jesus Navas, begin the 2013/14 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Alan Pardew's Newcastle United on Monday night.
