Seria A side Fiorentina are set to make a bid for Real Madrid's Xabi Alonso this summer, reports the Daily Express.
Alonso has just one year left in his current contract with Madrid and Liverpool, Chelsea, Juventus and Fiorentina had all been linked with making a move when his deal expires.
However, latest reports coming from Spain suggest Fiorentina have decided to make a bid this summer in order to land the player ahead of the other clubs.
Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo claims the Italian club are set to start negotiations with the Madrid hierarchy regarding a transfer for the player before the transfer window expires as the Viola continue building a side capable of competing in the Champions League in the coming season.
Fiorentina have already brought in Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich to replace Stevan Jovetic who joined Manchester City and have now targeted the 31-year-old Basque to strengthen their midfield after missing out on chief target Marco Verratti.
Alonso has yet to agree terms on a contract extension with Los Blancos despite the offer being on his table for a couple of months and Real might be tempted into agreeing a deal for the playmaker at the right price if the player continues to stall over the extension.
Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the player as Alonso enjoyed a good working relationship with Jose Mourinho whereas Liverpool are also being linked with the player as Brendan Rodgers is believed to be keen on bringing the midfielder back to the Anfield.
