Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams has been a subject of interest from Arsenal for quite a while now.
However, there have been no bids for the centre-back to date. Here are the reasons why Arsene Wenger should pursue the signature of the defender.
Arsenal finished fourth in the 2012/2013 Premier League. However, the performances they put in at the beginning and middle of the season tarnished the chance of a higher finish. Their form towards the end of the season was undeniably brilliant, although, there were quite a few back-line slip-ups that could have been costly.
Also, let us not forget the troubling injury situation Arsenal have found themselves in previously, particularly in defence. Nacho Monreal and Thomas Vermaeleen are both on the sidelines with back injuries, whilst the injury records of both Bacary Sagna and Laurent Koscielny are consistent.
This being said, the signing of Ashley Williams would be perfect in order to ensure some security in the backline in case of unexpected injuries and also to add some strength to the squad.
Williams made 37 appearances for Swansea in the league in both the previous season and in 2011/2012 campaign. He would a reliable centre-back for the Gunners, and an investment in him made by Arsene Wenger is sure to prove rewarding.
