It is no small secret that Arsenal have not made enough progress in the transfer market this summer.
In order to retain Champions League football Arsene Wenger must move quickly to keep up with his rivals - the foremost of which is Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham, who have made great forward leaps with their latest signings.
Can the Gunners match this? If they are to do so, they must buy the right players, and here is a list of who should be their top five players in mind:
5 - Stephan Lichtsteiner
With Arsenal reportedly tracking the Swiss international as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, it would seem they are looking towards a proven player.
If they could capture the 29-year-old, it would add a great deal more quality to their defence than they already have.
Sagna's poor form last year mean Arsenal do not have a certain right-back, so Lichtsteiner would be a good choice for them.
4 - Edin Dzeko
Competition from Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo may push the Bosnian away from Manchester City, and Arsenal should be ready to swoop.
While Olivier Giroud is good, he is not necessarily a certainty for success, and Dzeko can guarantee goals- something which Wenger dearly needs.
3 - Michu
The Spaniard could solve a lot of problems for Arsenal, but would he move from Swansea?
The idea of Champions League football could tempt him, and with Wilfried Bony joining the Swans, they might be more willing to let him go.
2 - Luiz Gustavo
Treble-winning Brazilian international Gustavo has found himself surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich, and so wants to leave.
He has great experience and quality, and more than anything can perform in big games - a rare and much-needed attribute.
While the Gunners' midfield is already great, Gustavo would solidify that and could even act as the missing leader of their squad.
1 - Luis Suarez
Arsenal have needed another world class forward after the departure of Robin van Persie, and the Uruguayan is exactly that.
His ability is unquestionable, and though his temperament is highly doubted, Wenger cannot let that stop him from forking out the cash for Liverpool's star man.
Signing Suarez will push them onto greater things.
