Arsenal were not considered that impressive last season, however there are some players that excelled throughout the campaign.

Below lists the top five players for Arsenal and reasons for why they have been selected:

5: Mikel Arteta (Spain) CDM/CM

Arteta proved himself a strong leader after the absence of Thomas Vermaelen. He also had some outstanding defensive performances whilst still getting forward and contributing to the goals.

4: Laurent Koscielny (France) CB

Koscielny only really become largely recognised towards the end of the season which is why he isn’t further up the list. The last, and only time Arsenal have been at Wembley was in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City.

It was here that his mistake give Birmingham the lead and they eventually went on to win the trophy that could have ended Arsenal's drought.

However, I think that the winner against Newcastle that sealed Arsenal's Champions League position made up for the earlier mistake.

3: Jack Wilshere (England) CDM/CM

Wilshere had some exceptional performances for Arsenal when he returned from injury last season. Although, when he was on the pitch and fit he was incredible for his side.

Arsene Wenger, Roy Hodgson, and Steven Gerrard have all tipped him for Arsenal and England Captain in the near future.

2: Theo Walcott (England) RM/LW/ST

The England international was Arsenal's top scorer and played significant roles in many games last season. His lightning pace and acceleration has always been acknowledged but recently his finishing has improved which has led him to get more goals.

Plus with the absence of a regular striker the opportunity for him to get all the goals has been greater than ever and he has taken full advantage.

1: Santiago Cazorla (Spain) CAM/LM

Cazola had an extraordinary debut season getting man of the match on his debut against Sunderland.

He also achieved 12 goals and 14 assists. It was difficult to choose between Theo Walcott and Santi Carzola but seeing as it was Cazolas debut season and he still performed at the level he did I felt it gave him the edge over his team mate.
