Many critics and Arsenal fans feel that the departure of Robin Van Persie to Manchester United at the start of last season was not followed up with a suitable replacement, and Arsenal no longer have that dangerous element that was provided from previous strikers.
However, last summer’s acquisitions of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud have sufficiently replaced Van Persie.
New dynamic in play
One of Giroud’s best traits is his height and heading ability. These traits allow the ball to be played forward and crossed into the box for the big Frenchman to get his head on, which will offer Arsenal a different playing style along with their passing game.
Only going to get better
Coming into England can be very hard - the fans, the language, the country and the football. Many great players have achieved greatness in other countries but have failed to adapt in England and slumped. Podolski predominantly played on he left wing and got 16 goals in all competition last season and Giroud was criticised for not emulating the success of RVP but still notched an impressive 17 goals in all competitions.
Without the fact this is their first year in the premier league the duos goal tally is very impressive. This can only improve in following seasons as they adapt more to the English game.
More urgent needs in other areas
All of Arsenals transfer attention seems to be bringing the controversial striker Luis Suarez. However, Arsenal needs to turn their attentions to a central defensive midfielder. Arsenal has failed to replace Alex song and need to add some experience to their midfield. Luis Gustavo would have been an ideal investment but has joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. Also, most Arsenal fans agree that a new goalkeeper is needed to shore up the Arsenal defence and to challenge Szczesny.
To conclude, Arsenal have already got the foundations to have a free-scoring partnership in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud and should turn their attention to other areas of the pitch to challenge for the Premier League title once more.
