Bundesliga 2008/2009 champions Wolfsburg have announced the signing of highly-rated Brazilian defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich.
The 26-year-old midfield destroyer was a reported target for London outfits Arsenal but has opted to continue plying his trade in Germany.
Gustavo, who was a member of the treble-winning Bayern team, saw his opportunities for first team football reduced when Pep Guardiola opted to sign Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona. But he is very keen to play as he wants to be in contention for a spot in Brazil's World Cup squad next year.
Gustavo is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and was attracting interest from Arsenal and Napoli. The Brazilian is known for his tough tackling and his ability to cover a lot of ground across the pitch. He is also good on the ball and is a good distributor as well as a player who very rarely gives the ball away.
Gustavo will surely add some quality to the Wolfsburg squad as they look to challenge for a spot in the top half of the table. They will be looking to work their way up the table to try secure a European spot. Gustavo will be joining a host of Brazilians in the form of Naldo, Felipe Lopes and Diego at Wolfsburg.
