Joe Hart has received a vote of confidence from new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who has backed him to improve.
Hart has been the subject of criticism after a being at fault a number of times last season, and making a mistake that led to Scotland's opener during their friendly against England on Wednesday.
Pellegrini, however, has backed his goalkeeper to recapture the form that saw him dubbed as one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe, by shining for Manchester City.
"I haven't spoken with him but Joe has to demonstrate why he is the best goalkeeper in England every week he plays," the Chilean manager said. "He is a very important goalkeeper and I have a lot of trust in him.
"Everyone can make an error in one match but personally I have a lot of trust in Joe Hart."
Hart's recent dip in form has been in part attributed to a lack of competition at both club and national level.
Costel Pantilimon is an idle threat at City as he only really gets a look in during the League Cup fixtures, whilst it's been a while since England boasted a selection of consistent keepers from which to select their number one.
The Citizens' opening game will see them face Newcastle, and Hart will no doubt be desperate to put Wednesday's mistake well and truly behind him.
