Arsene Wenger’s latest round of interviews say nothing new with his rose tinted views of how he sees Arsenal moving forward.
But these are the same old ramblings of a professor who has not kept up to date with the rest of the world, while the rest of football has caught up. Every club now is trying to find a diamond in the rough to turn in to a world star.
Wenger’s project of turning Arsenal in to a modern day super club with a youth conveyor belt similar to Barcelona's has worked well to a degree.
Unfortunately Wenger forgot the major ingredient of mixing world class talent with his young fledgling players.
Wenger has tried to purchase cheap alternatives hoping they were good enough to to take the team forward but not good enough to stop talent coming through. This has back fired spectacularly.
The current Arsenal playing squad is short in depth, just like Tottenham have been for years, except Tottenham have made sure this season they have good squad depth in their pursuit to finally overhaul Arsenal in to a top four position.
As for Wenger and his threadbare squad, it seems that while Arsenal has a small very settled squad with world class talent, they are indeed in need for at least three talented players to help fill gaps in defence, midfield and also up front.
In my humble opinion Arsenal should be going out and trying to purchase the talented defender Mamadou Sakho from French club Paris St Germain.
A player that Wenger has continually watched for the past five seasons but has not made a formal offer, thou it is widely believed Sakho would be interested in joining the north London giants with his place coming under threat at PSG.
Another player being linked regularly with Arsenal is defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia who is currently playing at Sevilla in Spain.
The French international has said an offer from Arsenal would make it fascinating for him to make a decision on his footballing future. He would easily slot in to the holding midfield position that Arsenal really need.
Finally Arsenal urgently need another striker and I would like to see is Porto’s goal machine Jackson Martinez being the final part of the mini jigsaw to add strength in depth to the current Arsenal squad. Martinez is believed to be allowed to leave Porto for just £25m - a steal in today's over inflated market.
While we all can speculate on potential future arrivals coming in to Arsenal, one has to finally consider that Wenger’s current behaviour is of a tired man entering his final year at Arsenal.
While I would hate to see this professor go for all his great achievements that everyone seems to of forgotten, one must remember that no one person is ever bigger than a club and time stands still for no one.
