Who will win Super League this season?
With the Play-offs awaiting, Alex Mitchell predicts who will succeed and who will fail
Every Rugby League fan looks forward to them, the Super League Play-offs. It's where hero's are made, villains are created and legends are made. Some teams come together and everything clicks just at the right time, for others, groups fall apart and the hard work put in the rest of season counts for nothing as they are eliminated early.
Who will win this season's playoffs, who will come out as a hero? GMS Academy member Alex Mitchell reveals who he thinks will shine and who will fall this season.
The bookies favourite's for the Super League title this season will be Wigan. After all, they have the players in Sam Tomkins and Josh Charnley. They also have the knack that only great team's have, to capability to beat any team in the league even if they play poorly.
With Wigan undoubtedly going to gain a top-3 spot in the regular season, they will gain a home match and choose their first opponent in the Play-offs. Wigan are the safe bet for this year's championship, it's just whether they can cope with the pressure of being favourites.
The team that I think will fail in this year's Play-offs is, undoubtedly to some people's surprise, Warrington. Although this may look controversial, Warrington have been struggling during recent weeks to win some of their games, most recently losing to Widnes Vikings on Thursday.
The have also been touted as a one-man team by fans and players such as Matty Blythe, signed by Bradford from Wire just a few weeks ago. This could be a very disappointing end to the campaign for a team that should do so well.
The dark horse this year, like so many other year's, is the Leeds Rhinos. No matter how poorly they may play going into the Play-offs they always find a new gear that makes them unbeatable. They have the talent and resilience. They are the ultimate Super League team, because of their Play-off record, which is unmatched. They have won the Grand Final a record 6 times, 5 of which have been in the last 6 years.
The stand-out player for the Play-offs will be Kevin Sinfield. He is the man who has made Leeds unbeatable in the Play-offs, whether it be 40/20 kicks to gain momentum or his impeccable goal conversion rate. Sinfield is the go-to man as far as the Play-offs are concerned. His performances in last year's Play-offs were recognised with the World Player of The Year Award.
Prediction- Leeds Rhinos 24 - 22 Wigan Warriors
MOS (Man Of Steel) - Kevin Sinfield
