Bayern Munich took Europe by storm last season, winning their first Champions League since 2001 in a historic treble winning season under Jupp Heynckes.
Also claiming glory in the Bundesliga, as well as the DFB-Pokal in a remarkable season that will be remembered by Munich fans for many years to come.
Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is set to take reign at Bayern, as a result of Jupp Heynckes retirement from coaching.
Guardiola certainly has big boots to fill following the German club's triumphant success over the course of last season; however the Spaniard has previously flourished in Europe, conquering the Champions League on two separate occasions with Barcelona.
While the Spaniard will face a tenacious test in reproducing the form of Bayern in the 2012/2013 season; it is very possible that Bayern will be able to overcome opposition in Europe to become the first side to win the Champions League two years on the bounce since its change of format in 1992.
If they are to prosper in Europe once again they will face stiff competition from Barcelona, who have strengthened their squad buying Brazilian wonder-kid Neymar in hope to conquer domestically and continentally.
Real Madrid will be another favourite to win the competition, and recent links to Welsh wizard Gareth Bale would certainly give them a good shout of winning the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Bayern have prized Mario Gotze away Champions League runners-up, Borussia Dortmund. Bayern have continued to further strengthen their squad purchasing promising Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alacantra for a sizeable fee of £20million.
There is no doubt that Bayern Munich will face a tricky battle in an attempt to make history and retain the Champions League. However it looks as if Munich posses enough depth in their squad to be able to thrive under new boss Pep Guardiola.
