Arsenal's first game of the season finished in a miserable fashion.
A 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa has left fans fuming at the lack of ambition shown in transfer market by Arsene Wenger and his board.
The atmosphere before the game was already tense and it was clear that should the team fail to win then Wenger's head would be there for the taking. But even after the hostile reaction from the fans Wenger was still defiant.
The Frenchman has spoken numerous times about not being able to find a single player in world football that is available and could improve the squad. He told reporters: “We are ready to buy the players if we find the players who are good enough for us. People say buy players, buy players, buy players. But tell me who. Then it becomes much more problematic.”
I'm no football manager, but here's a quick list of players I believe are available and could add style, flair and solidity to the current Arsenal squad:
Mamadou Sakho: A talented, tough defender who can fill in at left back if needed. He's spoken about his frustration at his lack of game time for PSG and would be willing to move should a big enough club come calling. PSG would want between £8million and £12 million for him.
Cristian Eriksen: A hot prospect in Europe who can play on the the left or just behind the striker. Ajax play silky attacking football so adapting to Arsenal wouldn't be a problem. Would also be a good replacement for Gervinho and a long term alternative to Tomas Rosicky. He would cost upwards of £20million.
Arda Turan: Arsenal have been linked with the tricky Atletico Madrid winger before and he could be the perfect player to link up with and provide cover for Santi Cazorla. He would also cost upwards of £20million.
Erik Lamela: A potential world beater here with exceptional dribbling skills and pace. He would demand a big price tag but has the potential to be the next big thing. Roma would want at least £30million.
Adem Ljajic: Outshone Steven Jovetic at times last season and is a key part of Fiorentina's attacking threat. A.C Milan have shown interest but Fiorentina would much rather sell abroad. Atletico Madrid are also keen so it would take a sizeable offer to snap him up.
Geoffrey Kondogbia: The young French midfielder has impressed in Spain and has attracted interest from big clubs like Real Madrid. He's a strong midfielder who also possesses good dribbling technique and can go on powerful runs, similar to Man City's Yaya Toure. He would cost around £17million pounds.
Marouane Fellaini: A lot of Arsenal fans have called for his transfer and it's not difficult to see why. His strength in midfield and ability in the air have caused for nightmare's other Premier League sides. Everton would want at least £25million for the player after a clause in his contract recently expired.
Burak Yilmaz: Impressed immensely for Galatasaray in the Champions League last season and would represent very good value for money.
Oscar Cardozo: At 30-years-old he's reaching his last chance for a big move away from Benfica. He could provide a good challenge for Olivier Giroud in the centre forward spot and wouldn't cost as much as someone like Michu.
In the comments below, suggest some other players who you think are available and could improve Arsenal's chances of silverware this season. Also tell me what you think of my list and who on it wouldn't make the grade in the Premier League.
