You cannot argue that John Cena’s rise to the top has been anything other phenomenal. Making his debut on SmackDown when former WWE star Kurt Angle called out anyone from the back, John Cena took his chance and started his own legacy from that very moment.
Now, Cena is the face of the company and, whether we like it or not, he will remain the face for a number of years to come; or until he decides to hang up his boots at least. Cena is one of those superstars who always divides opinion. The kids love him, but the adults have now outgrown him as the repetitiveness becomes old and extremely predictable.
There is no doubt that Cena is a hard worker and he probably does deserve the success he has had after travelling every single week and competing to the highest level as well as fulfilling over 300 wishes for children with life-threatening injuries.
However, it is not just us fans who argue whether Cena is the best or not. In fact, former World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler has said that he is sick of the 11-time WWE Champion.
Speaking prior to Summerslam, where Daniel Bryan defeated Cena for the WWE Title, Ziggler said: “Once again, I’m going to go with the guy who has a chip on his shoulder, something to prove.
“He’s a smaller guy; he’s not just a wrestler. Cena, personally I’m sick of him. Ten years doing the same thing, same fives moves, the crowd loves him, the crowd hates him, either way, and he does the same thing. I’m sick of it.
“I understand the awesome charity work he does, I understand what he represents, he makes a great face for our company, and I’d rather see his face on a WWE dollar bill than Daniel Bryan’s.
"But I feel like we need a change, and as much as I feel like I’m that change, Daniel Bryan is in the position to actually beat John Cena. Not to go out there and go, ‘oh, hey, he had a really good match, great, let’s move on.’ I don’t know what’s going to happen. I hope he wins.”
Ziggler will be one of many who is pleased Bryan was finally able to win the big one, a championship he deserves more than anyone as one of the greatest wrestlers on the planet. Ziggler’s comments come after Daniel Bryan spoke out on Monday Night Raw, calling John Cena a superstar, whereas Daniel Bryan is a real wrestler.
