As far as opening days in the Premier League go, Saturday couldn't have gone much worse for Arsenal fans.

After a frustrating summer in the transfer market, in which Arsene Wenger has failed to bring in one senior player, the fans were hoping to get back to footballing matters with an easy win against Aston Villa at the Emirates.

However, Villa hadn't read the script and came from 1-0 down to win 3-1 and gift Arsenal their first opening day defeat since 2000.

Although some Arsenal fans would swear to you that the loss was inevitable, it was a results that upset to odds and no doubt ruined a few accumulators along the way.

Here we take a look at five of the biggest opening day shockers in Premier League history.
