Premier League: Top five Spanish stars (1)

The Premier League has been improved by the influx of foreign players from all four corners of the globe since its formation in 1992 - but in recent years its the Spaniards who have taken centre stage.

That is no major surprise considering the remarkable success of the Spanish national side since 2008.

While the best Spaniards still tend to ply their trade for either Barcelona or Real Madrid, those who have opted to prove themselves at big English clubs have, more often than not, gone on to light up the Premier League.

It may be bowing to the cliche that all Spanish footballers are technically gifted, but it's no coincidence that every player on this list is comfortable with the ball at their feet, able to pick a pass and - with the exception of one, given his position on the pitch - cool in front of goal.

However, as it is only a top five, there will inevitably be some notable omissions.

Michu of Swansea City is unlucky to just miss out after a stunning debut season in England, while Manchester City duo Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo have the potential to become genuine stars at the Etihad Stadium.

But these are the five best players currently playing in the Premier League.
