Peruvian football witnessed a sight so rare that it will take a gigantic effort on the viewer's part to forget what happened in front of their eyes last week.
Barely six minutes into the Championship match between Sporting Cristal and Union Comercio, keeper Juan Flores of Comercio commited a blunder he will never forget in his life.
Collecting the ball from one of his side's defenders at the edge of his box, Flores casually retreats further inside, inviting the opposition striker to chase him.
With Cristal striker Irven Avila closing in on him, Flores tries to be cheeky and attempts a dummy move before picking up the ball.
But Avila was not fooled and cleanly tackles Flores, snatches the ball away from his feet and slots home into an empty net, leaving the keeper looking like the dumbest person on earth.
Whatever the keeper was thinking and intending to achieve with his adventure is anyone's guess, but one thing is sure - he failed miserably and ended up committing one of the biggest contenders for the howler of the year.
The whole stadium gasped in union as they witnessed something one seldom witnesses anywhere in any stadium around the world, and the Cristal supporters behind the net celebrated happily as their team was gifted a goal so easily so early on in the game.
The Union players and supporters watched on in silence as they came to terms with their keeper's horrendous mistake.
The game finally ended with the home side winning by a margin of 2-0 over the visiting Comercio team.
