The build up to SummerSlam started months ago, but now the show is over, where will the WWE be heading?
World Heavyweight Championship
Current World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio has dominated the championship all of 2013.
Del Rio has held the title for 154 days so far this year and shows no sign of letting the title slip from his grasp.
The key to Del Rio’s longevity as champion is that he has held the title as both a babyface and a heel. After his win over Christian, in what was by far his best match as champion, Del Rio cut a promo saying he is a Mexican hero.
Of course, this promo was done to set up a feud with Rey Mysterio, who will be returning to WWE imminently. This feud is nowhere near original, as Del Rio has clashed with Mysterio on at least five occasions since his debut three years ago.
This feud will undoubtedly give us some entertaining title matches but will most likely be used to hand the title to Damien Sandow, who will cash in on Mysterio.
The WWE Championship scene will be a very different place now.
Since April 2011 every WWE Championship match has included either John Cena or CM Punk. That is until last night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view when Randy Orton cashed in his money in the bank contract to beat Daniel Bryan.
Now CM Punk is in the midst of a feud with Paul Heyman, which will keep him occupied for the next few months, and John Cena is taking time off to have surgery on his injured elbow.
This allows Bryan to feud with Orton for the title at the next few pay-per-views. Although there is no news on who Orton will clash with after his dispute with Bryan ends, it is expected he will hold the title for the at least until the end of the year.
The WWE creative team has had the Wrestlemania 30 main events set since Wrestlemania 29, and we will start seeing the build-up to Wrestlemania 30 extremely soon, if not this week.
WWE will start the Triple H vs Vince McMahon feud, which will lead to Triple H facing a representative of McMahon, believed to be The Rock, in the main event of Wrestlemania 30.
Although nothing is confirmed, there are rumours that Brock Lesnar could begin his Wrestlemania storyline at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view by interrupting one of the matches.
Nothing is for sure in the WWE, but it looks like there could be an Evolution reunion on the cards.
