Arsenal fans voiced their concerns with Arsene Wenger after a dismal opening day defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, who barely staved off relegation last year.
The final whistle was met with a chorus of boos from the Emirates faithful, with the fans very unhappy about the lack of new signings coming in, especially after Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis said that money would be available this summer.
During the transfer window Arsenal have allowed 17 players to leave while bringing in just a single body, that of French under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo.
This week Arsenal have finally started some proper wheeling and dealing attempts by offering £10 million for Newcastle central midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The defensive midfielder has been the Magpies best player over the last two seasons, but I don’t think that he suits the Arsenal team or the sort of player they need.
As it stands the Gunners midfield is their strength with Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky who is still a wonderful footballer. Cabaye is a crafty, calm central midfielder, but Arsenal don't need this, they need a solid centre back, a left winger and a 15+ goals a season striker. As it stands they don’t seem to be going in for any of these and this shows Wenger’s naivety in how his team works best.
