Everton have revealed that a joint bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines from Manchester United for £28m is "derisory and insulting".
United are keen on adding the English defender and Belgian midfielder to their squad, with former Everton boss David Moyes is very familiar with Baines and Fellaini and has made his interest known for a while now.
However, Everton are determined to retain two of their most important players and released a club statement which read: "Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players."
Fellaini was signed by David Moyes at Everton in 2008 for £15m, which then ended up at £17.5m with add-ons.
Manchester United are believed to be offering £16m for Fellaini as well as £12m for Baines, even though they have already had a £12m bid rejected by Everton for Baines earlier this transfer window.
According to other reports, Fellaini had a £23.5m release clause which expired in July, many teams including the Red Devils are believed to have been wanting that to expire in the hope that they can get him on the cheap.
