Sunderland's Phil Bardsley has been suspended from playing for the club indefinitely by manager Paulo di Canio, according to the Daily Mail.
It is believed that the actions are a direct result of Bardsley's comments on Twitter following Sunderland's 1-0 defeat to Fulham in their opening Premier League fixture.
The full-back sent a sarcastic message to supporters of the Black Cats who were posting pictures on Instagram after the game, saying: 'Great opening day. Hahahhahaha hahahhaha!!!'
What followed were numerous complaints from the club's supporters, prompting a disciplinary meeting between Bardsley, Di Canio and Sunderland officials.
According to reports, the 28-year-old has now been banned from training, and will play no part in future games for at least the immediate future.
There are even some claims that the Scottish national is now to be sold, with Fulham ironically being interested in his signature.
