Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are heading for a transfer collision course over the signing of promising attacker Erik Lamela.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma have decided they need to sell one of Lamela or Miralem Pjanic and the former could spark a north London transfer tussle.
Andre Villas-Boas was reported to be on the verge of securing the signing of Brazilian star Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala, but was also on the trail of Lamela.
Now Gazzetta have claimed Spurs are not close to securing the Argentine’s services and that Arsene Wenger has registered his interest.
Arsenal have been heavily criticised for a failure to land any of their major targets this summer and Wenger is under pressure to deliver some new signings before the transfer window closes.
Reports suggest that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is already spending the money the club are due to receive for the expected sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, so Arsenal may find themselves in a bidding war for the 21-year-old.
Gazzetta claim Roma officials are keen to offload either Lamela or Pjanic to bring down their wage bill after being unable to offload Daniele de Rossi, one of their highest earners.
