With Night of Champions less than a month away, WWE needed to start the build up straight off the back of Summerslam.
I myself don't fully know where the Daniel Bryan storyline will lead or if WWE are going to bring back some superstars or team them up with Bryan, so he will at least have a fighting chance against The McMahons, Triple H and Randy Orton, but I sincerely hope they do.
The night began with John Cena saying goodbye for 4-6 months as he goes to remove the fluid on his elbow from a torn tricep, he handed over to Bryan in a sort of passing of the torch moment. Bryan was not happy as you would guess after the previous nights events and after a confrontation with Stephanie Mcmahon he was escorted out of the arena by security.
Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow had a rematch from Summerslam. This made no sense to me, I'm guessing Damien wanted to claim back bragging rights, but Cody won again, WWE seem to be giving Cody a push and allowing Sandow to become more and more hated. Cody after, said something about a number one contender, I have no clue if this is real or he was just mocking Damien.
It seemed like Triple H was using Brad Maddox to dish out punishment to the superstars that had sad bad things about him after he had pedigree'd Daniel Bryan the night before. Brad made two matches, Dolph Ziggler v The Shield (A three on on handicap match) and Big Show v The Shield (A three on one tornado tag match) as a way to punish Ziggler and Show after the comments they made.
Dolph was well beaten by The Shield after holding his own for a while, It looked like a suplex over the ropes had tweaked Seth Rollins knee but Roman asked if he was ok and he said yes. Later in their match against Big Show he hit his knee drop finisher and looked in a lot of pain but managed to carry on.
Alberto Del Rio was up against a returning Sin Cara who lasted minutes before Del Rio didn't catch him right and he fell and broke his fingers, Ricardo Rodriguez then made his return teaming up with Rob Van Dam who ran to the ring to beat up on Del Rio. Possible title contender for Night of Champions?
Paul Heyman asked for an apology from CM Punk if he wanted to return to the Heyman guy persona. A very beaten up CM Punk replied by apologising for not ripping his arm off and taking it home with him, so Paul Heyman sent Curtis Axel to do his dirty work and CM Punk got the better of him.
Total Divas seems to be dominating the Divas division, with the Divas champion AJ Lee this week saying she should be involved. The Bella's had a backstage confrontation with The Funkadactyls but it ended before it became physical and Naomi and Cameron headed out to face AJ and Layla. The match started off fast paced, Cameron didn't even get in the ring and Layla was pinned the minute she stepped in. What is going on with the Divas division?
Darren Young looks to be receiving a push after his surprise revelation in midweek. Darren got the pin and the win for Prime time players over The Real Americans.
The Uso's were back in action on Raw with a win over two members of 3MB, Drew Macintyre was sitting this one out after his mid week brawl alongside Alberto Del Rio.
Randy Orton's title celebration saw The Shield acting as enforcers (I don't even know why, Daniel Bryan is one man, and Triple H, Randy Orton and Vince were in the ring, I think they can handle themselves). After Triple H cut a promo about how selfish Daniel Bryan was and how short sighted the fans are, Triple H invited Daniel Bryan out, telling him no one would touch him. He came out, received a beat down from The Shield, after fighting all three off he was welcomed to the ring by an RKO from Randy Orton.
The bad week for Daniel Bryan continues. I just hope WWE find him a friend or a few friends because right now this reminds me of the Shawn Michaels/Vince McMahon fued of 2006 where The Spirit Squad (The Shield) Shane McMahon (Triple H) and Chris Masters(Randy Orton) were all against HBK but he still came out on top.
As for build up for Night of Champions, the foundations seem to have been laid but I think the build up will truly begin when we find out how far Triple H and the McMahons are willing to take this.
