Will Wayne Rooney eclipse Alan Shearer's goalscoring record?

The former Newcastle favourite scored a sensational 260 Premier League goals spanning over a 14-year career at Blackburn and the Toon Army.

While Wayne Rooney has currently scored 156 Premier League goals and is sixth place overall in the standings - despite being only 27-years-old.

Yes, he is still 104 goals behind Shearer, but Rooney still arguably has another 10 years in him, if he follows the path of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, but if not another six or seven years will surely be enough to break that record.

The England international burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old after coming off the bench to score against Arsenal at Goodison Park, ending the Gunners 30-game unbeaten run as a result.

Rooney made a sensational move to Old Trafford in 2004 for £25million and proved he was worth every penny when the striker scored a hat trick on his debut in a Champions League clash with Fenerbahce.

And since then, he has continued to establish himself as a world-class player and closing in on Shearer's record.

Every season since his move Rooney has had double figures to his name in each season with the most prolific spell when he notched 27 goals in 34 Premier League starts in the 2011/2012 season.

If the striker continues such a good scoring record, he is sure to break Shearer's record, which has stood since he retired in 2006.

Personally I think the United striker will break the record. He has proven his talent time and time again and with the attacking potential the Old Trafford outfit has then he will surely bag loads more goals.

After being reunited with the boss that gave him his Premier League debut at Everton, David Moyes now at Manchester United, I'm sure he will show how good he actually is.

The striker is also heavily relied on at a national level, with Rooney the key man for England.

Every major tournament, the national looks at him for inspiration and he is more than capable of firing England to a final sooner or later.

Do you reckon Wayne Rooney will break Alan Shearer's record?
