Manchester United will prove fruitless in their attempts to sign Luke Shaw before the transfer deadline with Southampton reportedly unwilling to sell the young defender at any price.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for Shaw but, according to ESPN, Saints have informed Manchester United that the player is not available for transfer.
Shaw is reported to have been identified by Manchester United as an alternative recruit at left-back should they be unable to claim the signature of Leighton Baines before the transfer window closes.
The 18-year-old only signed a new five-year contract with Saints last month and, although this has not appeared to have deterred Manchester United, a deal for the player would appear to be unlikely.
With regards to Baines, Manchester United have failed in two attempts to sign the England international this summer, with Everton rejecting their most recent bid this week.
David Moyes offered a combined £28 million to sign Baines along with his Everton teammate Marouane Fellaini, but the bid was dismissed as 'derisory and insulting' by the Toffees.
Manchester United have endured a frustrating few months in the transfer market, with young Uruguayan Guillermo Varela the only acquisition of the Moyes era so far.
