The Sky Sports pundit and England first-team coach is known for not being afraid of saying what he thinks and that might be a valuable skill for the England Under-21 job.

Neville may want to make the step up and manage his own team after next summer's World Cup and the England Under-21 role would suit the former Manchester United defender.

He would probably need an experienced manager as his assistant but he would eventually be in a position to take over Roy Hodgson after the current England manager has retired.
