Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed the end of the pursuit to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez as he targets Real Madrid pair.

Wenger now wants to sign Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema, 25. The Gunnners are reportedly prepared to pay £40 million for Benzema and are also considering bid for his team-mate Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria is reportedly ready to quit the Spanish capital after reports claim that Real Madrid are close to signing Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The 25-year-old is not assured regular football under Ancelotti and will agree to join the north London club to bolster his World Cup chances.

The Argentine joined the La Liga runner-ups for €25 plus add-ons in 2010, but has since been criticised for his inconsistency.

While Arsenal, who suffered a shocking defeat against Aston Villa in their Premier League opener, are yet to make a major signing this summer.

After seeing his side win 3-0 against Fenerbache last night, Wenger ruled out the possibility of landing Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

"Absolutely no chance of that," he said about the chances of Suarez arriving at Emirates Stadium.

However, the Frenchman assured frustrated fans of signing in the closing days of the transfer window.

"The transfer market really starts now, a lot of activity will happen between now and 2 September. We have 12 days. A lot will happen. It starts now."
