Real Madrid would be willing to sell Arsenal target Karim Benzema before the close of the transfer window to make room for further recruits, according to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter.
The French striker has emerged as a target for the Gunners as the north London club strive to make reinforcements before the transfer deadline on September 2.
Arsenal are reported to have made an approach for Benzema along with Real Madrid teammate Angel di Maria, with Arsene Wenger prepared to pay £40 million to sign the former alone.
The Gunners took a significant step towards Champions League qualification on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Fenerbahce, making them a far more attractive prospect for the Real Madrid pair.
And, says Hunter, Arsenal have a good chance of proving successful in their pursuit of Benzema, after a summer of frustration in the transfer market so far.
“The dream for Madrid is not simply to complete the [Gareth] Bale deal but to swap around their strikeforce," he told talkSPORT.
“Benzema has not convinced over the last ten months and was booed off at the weekend when substituted, despite scoring.
“Madrid see a scenario where they are willing to trade Benzema to get the money to try to go after [Luis] Suarez. That’s their strategy.”
Arsenal had themselves wanted to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool after making a club record bid for the Uruguay international.
But Wenger has conceded defeat in his pursuit of the striker, seemingly opening the door for Real Madrid to themselves make an approach for Suarez.
