For the last couple of seasons, there have been many football fans that have lauded Leighton Baines as the best left-back in the Premier League.
Consistently performing to a high level, Baines has become Everton's most influential player and his talents haven’t gone unnoticed.
According to the stats, Baines made more crosses than any other player in the Premier League last season (271), created the most chances out of all the players in Europe’s top five leagues (116) and was the only outfield player to play every minute of the Premier League last season.
These are very impressive stats. But what I don’t understand is why Baines is still so underrated.
If Baines played for a ‘top four team’ there would be no doubt he would be the best left-back in the Premier League and arguably the best in Europe.
But some fans still believe Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra are better players just because they play for a ‘top four team’.
Baines isn’t going anywhere. He is Everton through and through.
You've also got to take into account Baines' age, he’s 28 but United would still have at least four seasons out of him.
When you look at full backs, for example Nacho Monreal for 10 million or Glen Johnson for 17.5 million.
Baines is streets ahead of these types of these players. I think 18 million would be a more suitable offer for Baines but I still think that’s a little bit cheap.
Personally I don’t think Baines will leave Everton. He is the ultimate professional and won’t be that tempted by the money. He has a settled life in Liverpool.
But the real question is do United actually need Baines? Let me know your thoughts on his by commenting in the box below.
