Spanish winger Diego Capel has emerged as a possible transfer target for Arsenal as the transfer deadline draws ever closer.

Arsenal are keen to strengthen their squad before September 2nd, with the Sporting Lisbon midfielder in their sights, and according to O Jogo, the Gunners are set to make a move for the 25-year-old.

Reports in Portugal suggest that Capel would be available for around £6 million, with the Spaniard keen to play Champions League football.

Premier League rivals Liverpool are also believed to be interested in Capel, who is ready to move from the Portuguese club.

Capel has represented Spain twice at senior level, and has three years remaining on his current deal.

Arsenal endured a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign as they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa.

However, Arsene Wenger's side bounced back in impressive fashion as they all but secured their passage into the Champions League group stages after a 3-0 play-off win over Fenerbahce in Turkey.
