Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has insisted that Fernando Torres' omission from the squad to face Villa is purely so that he can remain fresh, says talkSPORT.
Torres, who started in Chelsea's Premier League opener against Hull at the weekend, didn't even make the bench against Villa, with Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku taking part in the action instead.
With Chelsea set to face Manchester United on Monday, Cahill feels that the decision not to include Torres, was part of Mourinho's plan to ensure the striker is completely fresh for the bigger game.
"Monday is another game and maybe he will be involved then," Cahill said.
"We've got a lot of players in the squad and everyone is champing at the bit and the manager has given another opportunity out tonight.
"Everyone is pulling in the right direction. training is good and things are looking positive and we have a big challenge come Monday now."
Demba Ba on the other hand, believes that Torres absence was solely down to the size of Chelsea's star-studded squad. The former Newcastle forward said: "The team is big. The team has good players and the manager makes the choices. It is not for me to comment on who has to be in and who has to be out and stuff like that.
