Neymar has expressed his delight after scoring his first competitive goal for Barcelona.
The Brazil international, who signed for the Catalan giants this summer from Santos in a deal worth just under £50m, came off the bench to net the equaliser in Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup first leg tie against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday night.
With Lionel Messi forced off at half-time with an injury, the onus was on Neymar to provide some inspiration, and the 21-year-old did not disappoint.
“I’m happy because I came on and was able to help the team in a difficult situation," Neymar was quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper AS. "I'm thrilled to have scored my first goal.”
Atletico were perhaps the better side on the night, but Neymar's goal leaves the two-legged Spanish Super Cup tie delicately poised - and the ex-Santos star believes Barcelona will need to be at their best to triumph at the Nou Camp next week.
“It’s a good result and now we have to do the job at home." Neymar added. "Atlético are a strong side, and they showed that again in this match. The tie is wide open.”
